John R. Swart, Ph.D.,
President
Dr. John R. Swart is currently the president of Exemplar Genetics, a small biotech company focused on the development of models of human diseases such as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, heart disease and cancer. Prior to starting Exemplar, Dr. Swart worked for twelve years for the global animal health business of Boehringer Ingelheim. His experience with Boehringer included responsibilities in research and development, regulatory affairs, quality assurance, and operations management. He now leads a team of highly qualified professionals focused on enabling researchers to develop better understanding of disease mechanisms and facilitating the discovery of better therapies. |

Chris Rogers, Ph.D.,
Director of Research and Development
Dr. Rogers, a co-founder of Exemplar Genetics, leads the development of new models and works directly with customers from the early design stages to model validation. *Before joining Exemplar Genetics, he was in the laboratory of Michael J. Welsh at the University of Iowa and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. There, he led the efforts to generate several porcine models of cystic fibrosis. Dr. Rogers earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. |

Troy Arends,
Director of Business Development
Mr. Arends has been responsible for leading Exemplar Genetics’ growth in a dynamic marketplace since the company was founded. Immediately prior to joining Exemplar Genetics, he served as president of Berkridge Pork. His 14-plus years of sales and marketing experience also includes 10 years in the telecommunications industry. A native of northwest Iowa, Mr. Arends attended Northwestern College and Buena Vista University. |

Brian Dacken,
Manager of Clinical Research
Prior to joining the Exemplar Genetics leadership team, Mr. Dacken spent the last several years managing the genetically engineered pig business for Trans Ova Genetics. Experienced in animal husbandry, USDA animal welfare requirements, Good Clinical Practice record-keeping and bio-security, he provides valuable experience and knowledge that is critical to Exemplar Genetics’ ongoing development of model specific herds of animals. Mr. Dacken is the regulatory liaison for the USDA (animal welfare) and FDA (approval of genetically engineered animals). |

Ron Fedders
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Fedders has been responsible for conducting the financial affairs of Exemplar Genetics since its formation back in 2008. Immediately prior to joining Exemplar Genetics he served as CFO for Pro Pork LLC. He has almost 20 years of experience in the accounting field. A native of northwest Iowa, Mr. Fedders attended Dordt College to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree with majors in Business and Accounting. |
